The Joyful Doula – Postpartum Care

Picture this with me: You have had your baby and are home resting and recovering. There is a lot of work to do, taking care of a newborn while recovering from birth. Many women find it very beneficial to have a Postpartum Doula to serve as an extra set of hands during birth recovery.

At The Joyful Doula, we are passionate about mothers and babies receiving excellent care. Our Postpartum Doula care packages are thoughtfully put together with your comfort in mind.

Postpartum Doula Care: Each of our clients will receive 1 hour of In-home (or at a coffee shop if that is more comfortable and you just want to talk through your birth experience) Postpartum Doula Care they choose in their Doula Service Package within the first week after the birth. This service is customizable and can include: listening as you the client talk through the birth experience and working through any birth trauma, caring for your baby while mom rests, cleaning the house and meal prep, making a run to the grocery store, child care for other children in the home, and more. We make ourselves available to serve you and your family within 1 week of your birth. The goal is for you the client to be rested and well cared for. Birth is a big health event and does take some recovery time. The best thing for mom for at least the first week or two is getting as much rest as possible, eating nutritious meals and drinking plenty of water.

The importance of postpartum care has all but disappeared from modern society. The practice of postpartum care is an ancient one. According to the custom, after the birth of a baby (or two if you have twins!) the mother is then instructed to bed rest for at least 1-2 weeks. This allows her body to heal from the major health event that is birth. There are many changes that occur in the body during and after birth. Giving the gift of this time to heal can reap benefits that last a lifetime. Postpartum rest can help her hormones to regulate better and it helps her body to heal from any trauma or incision (if she had a c-section). Bed rest for the first 1-2 weeks Postpartum helps her establish bonding with her baby and lay the foundation for a good breastfeeding routine (if she is breastfeeding). Having a Postpartum Doula can significantly help each family as they make the adjustment to having a newborn baby with them.

** In-home Postpartum Care can also be purchased as a stand-alone service for $50 per hour. See the Doula Service Packages and Pricing Page for additional Information.
